This certification is issued by the Building Codes Division (BCD) to demonstrate that a person has passed a division-approved examination that covers Oregon laws relating to state building codes, including, but not limited to architectural barrier laws governing accessibility to buildings by disabled persons. You must obtain an OIC in order to work in Oregon using the following International Code Council (ICC) certifications: - Building Official Legal Management
- Building Plans Examiner
- Commercial Building Inspector
- Commercial Mechanical Inspector
- Fire Plans Examiner
- Residential Building Inspector
- Residential Mechanical Inspector.
Beginning October 1, 2005, new applicants for the following Oregon Code Certifications (OCC) also must have an Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC) in order to work in Oregon:- Oregon Residential Plumbing Inspector
- Plumbing Inspector
- Limited Plumbing Inspector Sewers
- Residential Electrical Inspector
- Electrical Inspector
- Manufactured Structure Construction Inspector
- Manufactured Structure Installation Inspector
- Park and Camp Inspector
- Recreational Vehicle Inspector

Examination Information: |
- This is an open book exam.
- Applicants approved to take an examination will be sent a "Letter of Authorization." This letter will explain the procedure for taking the examination and the address and telephone number of the test site selected.
- Examination date and time is scheduled by the applicant with the test site office personnel. Upon arrival at the test site, the applicant must provide photo identification and the letter of authorization.
- Applicants are requested to bring their own pencils and calculator; scratch paper will be provided.
- Programmable calculators and laptop computers are not permitted.
- Please allow two weeks for Building codes Division to grade exams. Do not contact the test location for grade results. The Building Codes Division will mail notification of grade results to the applicant. A certification will be issued after the applicant has passed the examination and paid the appropriate fees.
- Applicants who fail the examination may request to retake the examination at any time. Applicants must reapply and pay the $22.00 fee each time they wish to retest.

Continuing Ed Requirements: |
A person holding an Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC) is required to obtain at least 16 hours of continuing education every three years from the date of issuance, and every three years thereafter. At least 8 of these hours must be code change. OAR 918-098-1450 |
