Description: A "Certified Oregon Pharmacy technician" is a person licensed by the State Board of Pharmacy who assists the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy pursuant to rules of the board.

Duration: Expires Annually on September 30.
Fees - application, exam, etc.:  $35.00

Examination Information: All current pharmacy technicians are required to become certified no later than October 1, 2008, and gives all new pharmacy technicians until October 1, 2008, one year after initial licensure, or prior to the pharmacy technician's 19th birthday, whichever is later, to obtain certification.

What this means is:
To be licensed as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in Oregon, you must demonstrate that you have taken and passed the certified pharmacy technician exam no later than October 1, 2008, The tests are administered through either:

1. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board

2. Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians
(866) 391-9188

NOTE: Testing is NOT administered by the Oregon Board of Pharmacy. You must contact one of the agencies listed above for information regarding testing and certification.
Continuing Ed Requirements: During each period from September 1 through August 31, all Certified Oregon Pharmacy Technicians must complete and report at least one hour of pharmacy law, appropriate to the applicant's work setting and functions. Fifty minutes equal one contact hour.
Prerequisites: Certified Oregon Pharmacy Technicians shall complete initial training as outlined by the pharmacist-in-charge which includes on-the-job and related education corresponding to the tasks they are to perform. They must also have National Certification either through:

1. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board

Required Documentation: Along with the completed application, you must submit:
  • a passport regulation size photo,
  • a copy of your Driver's License or state issued ID Card,
  • a copy of your National Certification.
These items are required with your application regardless of when you obtained your Oregon Pharmacy Technician license. The Board will conduct a criminal background check.
