Description: |
A railroad intending to transport hazardous materials (haz mat) within or through this state shall provide advance notice of transportation of hazardous materials. This notification is in two parts: annually the written notification of intent (see required documentation below for details) and for hazardous materials placard as either "Explosives A/Explosive 1.1, 1.2" or a "Poison Gas/2.3, 6.1PGI, Hazard Zone A" advance telephonic notification (see required documentation below for details) to the Dept. of Transportation. Hazardous materials are those defined in Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 171.8 |

Required Documentation: |
Written notification to Dept. of Transportation and each of its dispatchers a milepost oriented inventory of each rail line it owns, leases or operates. It shall included the name and long-distance 24-hour telephone number of each emergency response agency empowered to respond to any haz mat incident along the rail lines and the territorial limits (defined by mileposts) for each emergency response agency. Annual written notification is also required. This is detailed in OAR 741-510-0020 (2), (3), & (4). Advance telephonic notice requirement details for each haz mat shipment are detailed in OAR 741-510-0020 (5). |
