An electrical contractor license allows a company to engage in the business of making electrical installations. An "Electrical Contractor, Limited Sign (CLS)" is limited to doing the electrical work authorized by a limited journeyman sign electrician license which are the installation and servicing of electrical signs and outline lighting. They can also extend a sign branch circuit not more that 15 feet, if the dedicated branch exists at the location. They can not install a branch circuit from an electrical panel, install control equipment not located on the same wall or post, inside or outside the building, install branch circuits, or perform work on service equipment. They are authorized to make, direct, supervise, or control the making of a sign installation only if the contractor is a sole proprietor licensed as a limited journeyman, a general supervising or a general journeyman electrician.

Prerequisites: |
- For the Limited Sign Contractor you need the signature of a Limited Sign Journeyman (SIG), a General Journeyman Electrician (J), or a Supervising Electrician (S)and their license number.
- If you use a business name other than your own name, register the assumed business name with the Secretary of State Corporation Division. Complete the form after your assumed business name has been registered. To learn if the assumed business name you want is available you can do a Business Name Search or call the Secretary of State Corporation Division at 503-986-2200.
