Fees - application, exam, etc.:  Initial: $30, plus $45 license fee.
Renewal: $45 if postmarked by the license expiration date. After the license expiration date, an additional $45 penalty is due.
Responsible Agency: Insurance Division - Licenses
Examination Information: Exam Time: By appointment only.
Exam Locations: Eugene, Portland and, Mount Lake Terrace, WA, Puyallup, WA, and Boise, ID.
Exam Passage Rate: 70 percent or higher for each portion of examination.
Exam Repeat: No restrictions.
Exam Cost: $65 for Life and Health, $65 for Property/Casualty, $55 for Life, $55 for Health.

Continuing Ed Requirements:
  • 24 continuing education hours are required for each renewal period.
  • All producers must include 3 continuing education hours of Oregon law and 3 continuing education hours of ethics for insurance producers at each renewal.


Information for Insurance Agent/Producers

Registered CE Providers (called Registered Proctors). To find online providers do a google.com search on either "CE providers" or "continuing Oregon education" (without the quotes).
Bonding Requirements: None
Insurance Requirements: None
Prerequisites: 1. Have a residence or place of business in Oregon.
2. Must disclose any criminal convictions.
3. Pass written examination.
4. Have fingerprints taken.
5. Complete Form 440-3000.
6. Must complete required pre-licensing training: 20 hours property and 20 hours casualty; 20 hour personal lines; 20 hours life; 20 hours health.

Renewals: Required Documentation
* Either originals or copies of continuing education course completion certificates.
* Signed renewal notice or signed statement acknowledging agent has had no conviction of a misdemeanor or felony in the last two years. If so, they must provide details with the renewal request.
Additional Information
The renewal fee and course completion certificates must be postmarked by the license expiration date or a $45 penalty fee applies.
Effective January 1, 2008 - A license issued to an individual insurance producer expires biennially in the month of the individual's birthday.
