Russia: Round of Post-START Talks Completed
Assistant Secretary Crowley (July 24): "Assistant Secretary Rose Gottemoeller has completed a negotiating round with her Russian counterparts in Geneva...continuing to make positive progress, following up on the summit last month and working-–or this month, and working towards a replacement START agreement by the end of the year." Full Text 

Russia and Georgia
Spokesman Kelly (July 14): "And we continue to urge Russia to respect Georgian sovereignty and territorial integrity, and facilitate stability in the region, participate in the Geneva process, implement its commitments under the August 12th ceasefire agreement. And we call on all nations to continue to support Georgia’s territorial integrity." More

START Follow-on Talks
Assistant Secretary Crowley (July 10): "... we continue to review our defensive posture, particularly as it pertains to Europe. We have continued to talk to Russia to reassure Russia that our prospective plans in Europe are aimed at the burgeoning Iranian capability; they’re not directed at Russia." More 

Reviewing Efficacy of Missile Defense Project
Spokesman Kelly (July 9): "In terms of missile defense, our position on that has been clear, too, that we are in the process of reviewing the efficacy of a missile defense project. The purpose of missile defense in Eastern Europe would be to counter an emerging ballistic missile threat from countries like Iran. It’s not designed against Russia." More

U.S. and Russia Sign Framework to Renew START Regime
Spokesman Kelly (July 6): "I have seen a lot of the reporting coming out of Moscow, all the different initiatives. I know that they signed a kind of a framework that will lead us to a successor agreement to the START regime to reduce nuclear weapons down to a much lower level." More 

Moscow Summit
At their initial meeting on April 1 in London, President Obama and Russian President Medvedev agreed to translate their mutual desire to "reset" U.S.-Russian relations into concrete outcomes that would benefit the American and Russian people. White House blog
