US EPA - Children’s Health Protection
The Environmental Protection Agency spotlights the environmental risks to
children, and the ways to protect them. Check where children live, learn and
play for any potential risks. Also included is a section on the health risks
associated with hurricane and flood disasters.
Child Labor Coalition
A national network for the exchange of information about child labor, a forum
for protecting working minors, and to develop public education to combat child
labor abuses.
Department of Health and Human Resources – Children’s Bureau
The Children’s Bureau is the oldest federal agency for children and is located
within the United States Department of Health and Human Services' Administration
for Children and Families, Administration on Children, Youth and Families. It is
responsible for assisting States in the delivery of child welfare services,
services designed to protect children and strengthen families.
International Center on Child Labor and Education (ICCLE)
ICCLE aims to strengthen and broaden worldwide efforts to protect and promote
the rights of all children. Its goals is for all children to receive a free,
meaningful education, and to be free from economic exploitation that is likely
to be damaging to the child's physical, mental, spiritual, social, and moral
development.
Child Welfare League of America
The nation’s oldest and largest membership-based child welfare organization.
Highlights a large number of programs to get involved in, including family
foster care, domestic violence, juvenile justice and child mental health.
International Labour Organization- International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour: IPEC
IPEC’s aim is to work towards the progressive elimination of child labor by
strengthening national capacities to address child labor problems, and to create
a worldwide movement to combat it. The IPEC’s priority target groups are bonded
child laborers, children in hazardous working conditions and occupations and
children who are particularly vulnerable, such as very young working children
below 12 years of age, and working girls.
National Archives – Lewis Hine’s Photographs
In 1908, Lewis Hine became the photographer for the National Child Labor
Committee (NCLC). Over the next decade, Hine documented child labor in American
industry to aid the NCLC's lobbying efforts to end the practice of child labor.
Between 1906 and 1908, he was a freelance photographer for The Survey, a leading
social reform magazine.
National Child Welfare Resource Center on Legal and Judicial Issues
The National Child Welfare Resource Center on Legal and Judicial Issues provides
expertise to agencies and courts on legal and judicial aspects of child welfare,
including court improvement, agency and court collaboration, timely decisions on
termination of parental rights, legal representation of children, permanent
guardianship, confidentiality, and other emerging child welfare issues. The
Center is a part of the American Bar Association Center on Children and the Law.
UNICEF
Created by the United Nations General Assembly in 1946 to help children after
World War II in Europe, UNICEF was first known as the United Nations
International Children's Emergency Fund. It's governing body of 36 nations,
representing all regions of the world, establishes policies, reviews programs
and approves budgets for the organization.
