Our customers total
580,588 people and include one out of every 18 Michigan citizens.
Within these systems,
we administer four defined benefit pension plans and two defined contribution
pension plans with combined net assets of nearly $56 billion, making us the
15th largest public pension system in the U.S., the 21st largest
pension system in the U.S., and the 39th largest pension system in the world. In 2008, we paid out $5.1
billion in pension and health benefits.

ORS is a process-based
organization. Its leaders manage the processes that, working together,
administer pension benefits. Each process has an owner, who determines the goals
and strategies, and a process leader who manages the day-to-day work of the
process staff.
