WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) issued the following statement on yesterday's announcement that the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, and the Government of Mexico are committed to developing a coordinated response to various Southwest border threats, including weapons and ammunition smuggling.  The arrangement, signed yesterday and supported by U.S. President Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderón, will allow security and law enforcement agencies on both sides of the border to work together to stop violence and criminal activity.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - On August 1, veterans started receiving college education benefits under the new GI Bill for the 21^st Century (the "Post-9/11 GI Bill").  An estimated 2.1 million members of the military who have served on active duty since September 11, 2001, including activated reservists and members of the National Guard, will be eligible for up to four years of education benefits, including stipends for housing and books.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) today announced that the Santa Ana Police Department will receive a $6.7 million investment from the U.S. Department of Justice through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  The funding, provided through the DOJ's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program, will be used to add and retain law enforcement officers.
