    Washington, DC – Today, Reps. Thomas J. Rooney (R-Fla.) and Michael E. McMahon (D-NY) elebrated a major victory in their joint crusade to increase mental health funding for our soldiers and veterans. McMahon and Rooney announced $500 million for Traumatic Brain Injury and Psychological health research, counseling and treatment programs included in the Defense Appropriations Act, which passed the House of Representatives today.

  • Rooney Votes to Pass Bill for 9/11 First Responders

    Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) voted in the House Judiciary Committee to pass the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2009 (H.R. 847). This legislation will provide long-term, mandatory funding for medical monitoring and treatment to World Trade Center responders and community members who were exposed to Ground Zero toxins. In addition the bill reopens the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund to provide compensation for economic losses, and provide liability protections for the WTC contractors and the City of New York

  • Rooney Bill To Ban Importation of Pythons Passes Judiciary Committee

    Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) successfully included an amendment to H.R, 2811 in the House Judiciary Committee which seeks to combat the growing threat of pythons in the Everglades. The Rooney amendment to the underlying bill explicitly states that Burmese and African Rock Pythons will be banned from importation into the United States. H.R 2811, sponsored by Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-Fla.) and co-sponsored by Rooney, would amend the "Lacey Act" to include pythons as in injurious species.

  • Rooney Secures Funding for Treasure Coast Projects in Energy and Water Bill

    Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) successfully secured vital Everglades funding and other projects on the Treasure Coast in a critical House appropriations bill. The House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2010 Energy and Water Appropriations bill which includes funding for the Army Corps of Engineers to complete various projects throughout the district.
