How did we get this way? The answer is simple. Oregon made serious polluting a crime back in the 1990s, but those criminal laws are rarely enforced. Yet we just established our first environmental crimes enforcement unit. Holding polluters accountable for the damage they cause to our water, land and air will more than pay for itself by reducing the costs of our civil compliance program and reducing healthcare, safety and cleanup costs.
I would like to receive updates about the Oregon Department of Justice’s efforts to fight environmental crime.
