PDF Information

1.   What is PDF?

PDF stands for Portable Document Format and is a universal file format that preserves the fonts, images, graphics, and layout of a source document.  PDF files are created using Adobe Acrobat Writer® software.  PDF files can be shared, viewed, and printed by anyone with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader® available from the Adobe® Website.

2.  What should I do if I am unable to view a PDF file?

  • You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader® Version 5.0 or higher to view documents on the DHHS website.  To check the version of your Adobe Acrobat Reader, locate and open your Acrobat Reader software.  The version number will be shown as Acrobat Reader opens.  You can also locate the version number after the Acrobat Reader has opened by clicking on the menu item Help and selecting About Acrobat Reader.  If you have a lower version than 5.0, you can get the most current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader® from the Adobe® Website.

  • If you know you have Adobe Acrobat Reader® 5.0 or higher and you are still experiencing difficulties viewing the document, save the PDF file to your computer, then go to the folder where you saved the file and open it.

3.  How do I save the PDF file to my computer?

For additional information regarding Adobe Acrobat Reader® or Microsoft® Products and Internet Explorer, see

4.  How do I print a PDF file?

Open the PDF file.  Choose "File" then "Print" OR use the small print icon button associated with the software application (but NOT the print icon button for the browser).
