Current Fire and Burning Regulations - Prineville / Sisters Unit
 
BURN PERMITS REQUIRED YEAR-ROUND
 
The Prineville / Sisters Unit protects approximately 450,000 acres of private-forestland in Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson counties.  Regulations within the "Prineville / Sisters Unit" apply in all three counties.
 
As of July 1, 2008 the Prineville / Sisters Unit has gone into a regulated use of fire activities and activites that can cause a fire:
 
2008 Regulated Closure for the Central Oregon District   
 
An Oregon Department of Forestry burn permit is required for open burning on forest lands which are not within a rural or municipal fire department.  You can acquire these permits from your local Oregon Department of Forestry office.
 
An Oregon Department of Forestry permit is also required for all burning of logging or thinning slash regardless of location.
 
For backyard and other debris burning within a rural or municipal fire district, please contact your local fire department for information on local regulations.
