Biography of First Lady Mikey Hoeven

First Lady Mikey HoevenFirst Lady Mikey L. Hoeven, (MIKE-EE) married to North Dakota Governor John Hoeven, is deeply committed to addressing women and children's issues in the state of North Dakota.

A strong advocate for the prevention of underage drinking, she recently launched a new statewide advertising campaign entitled, "Parenting for Prevention" to arm parents with tips on how to prevent underage drinking. In keeping with this effort, she is also a co-chair of the national coalition, Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free. This organization is made up of over 30 First Spouses from across the nation and is aimed at combating underage drinking in children ages 9-15 years of age.

Mrs. Hoeven hosts two annual statewide Women's Health Summits that address the most recent health issues affecting women of all ages. The summits feature both nationally known speakers as well as speakers from across the state of North Dakota.

Mrs. Hoeven is a member of the Governor's Prevention Advisory Council On Drugs And Alcohol. The Council was created to coordinate knowledge and resources that will result in policy-based alcohol and drug abuse prevention strategies.

Mrs. Hoeven attended the University of Texas in Austin, Texas and Minot State University in Minot, North Dakota, where she received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a bachelor's degree in Executive Secretarial Studies.

The First Lady and Governor Hoeven have been married for 26 years and have two children, Marcela and Jack.
