Over the last several days there has been an increased number of bear sightings in the Borough of Ramsey. It is normal behavior for bears to wander during this time of the year and over the next several weeks, the bears will likely move back to their natural habitat.

If you encounter a black bear in your neighbor hood or outdoors, follow these common sense safety tips:
         1. Remain Calm if you encounter a bear
         2. Make sure that the bear has an escape route
         3. Bears are always looking for food. Please take in all bird feeders

         4. Secure all garbage cans
         5. Keep all doors to your house, garage and shed secure
         6. To scare the bear away, make loud noises by yelling, banging pots
and pans or using an air horn

Please call the Ramsey Police Department if you feel that the bears are threatening at 201-327-2400
