Needs for residents with Alzheimer's

Worksite Redesign Technical Advisory Project

People with Alzheimer's have specific needs when it comes to making their home safe and comfortable. For example, they may have difficulty getting from a room with light flooring to a room with very dark flooring, as the floor looks like a large hole. Also, some do not recognize their own face and are often frightened/startled when they approach a full-length mirror, thinking that another person is standing in front of them. These are just a few of the many things to consider when designing a home for people with Alzheimer's. As with the visually-impaired, it is critical to enlist the services of a consultant in this field to assure all needs are taken into consideration.
