More than $1 billion dollars worth of medical research facilities, funded
from FY07 thru FY14, are under design or construction, with the MX supporting geographical Project Delivery Teams. This includes the Army's Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine (CHPPM), and the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID).
USAMRIID is the Nation’s, if not the World's, largest and most complex high-containment medical research facility. It is being designed and constructed as the keystone for the new National Interagency Biodefense Campus (NIBC) at Fort Detrick, Maryland.
Another national asset under design, and soon to be advertised for construction, is the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD) at Aberdeen Proving Grounds – Edgewood, Maryland.
Finally, the DoD Air Forces Medical Examiners System (AFMES) is being relocated under the Base Realignment and Closure Act 2005 (BRAC), and is moving from the Washington DC area to Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.
