Philanthropy

Distinct from the Sponsorship and Membership programs your company may choose to support the Smithsonian through a philanthropic grant.

Such a grant from your corporation or its corporate foundations can provide vital support for educational outreach, research, and many other programs.

In-kind gifts accepted by the Smithsonian provide significant relief for our operating budget. A variety of needs are satisfied by in-kind donations of goods and services such as equipment, software, and exhibition design support and services.

Planning the National Museum of African American History and Culture

The Boeing Company
The National Museum for African American History and Culture is still some years away from opening its building on the National Mall, but the Smithsonian’s nineteenth museum, established in 2003 by federal legislation, received an enormous boost from The Boeing Company for that eventual groundbreaking. Boeing’s gift of $5 million for museum pre-design and construction planning helps ensure that before long, the vital story of the African American experience will be shared with millions in a magnificent new facility.
