Smithsonian Women’s Committee

Founded in 1966, the Smithsonian Women’s Committee has raised over $8 million through fundraising activities and special projects to advance the interests of the Smithsonian.

The Committee’s most important – and most visible – activity is the annual Smithsonian Craft Show. The show, which debuted in 1983, provides leading American craft artists with a significant venue in the nation’s capital. Over a quarter of a century, the show has built a sterling reputation as one of the nation’s premier juried exhibitions of American crafts. Because each year a new team of three expert jurors is selected, the Smithsonian Craft Show is always fresh, new, different, and exciting. Thousands of visitors attend the show each year. With the recent addition of an Online Auction, the Smithsonian Craft Show’s Silent Auction offers craft-lovers nationwide an opportunity to bid on and acquire fine crafts and other items.
