Vacancy Announcement Transportation Technician I (2 Positions)

Grand Forks Minimum Qualifications: Requires a high school diploma or GED. Employee hired must have a valid Class B driver’s permit with air brakes with a cargo tanker endorsement the first day of work. The employee will then have 30 calendar days to take the behind-the-wheel exam and get the class B driver’s license with air brakes and with a cargo-tank endorsement. The district will make the equipment available for the employee to practice driving during these 30 days. Prior to the completion of the probationary period, the employee must have possession of a Class A driver’s license with air brakes and with a cargo-tanker endorsement. Requires normal vision and hearing range, with or without correction; eye-hand coordination; ability to communicate clearly to avoid confusion and misunderstanding with others; ability to remain calm and composed when dealing with distraught or angry people; ability to read, interpret, or explain applicable standards, technical literature, regulations, plans, and specifications; ability to accurately and clearly complete required paperwork. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing in normal and stressful conditions; use of construction equipment; traffic and machinery hazards may be present or may occur, safety training provided; requires walking; knowledge of practices, principles, standards and guidelines as related to Highway Maintenance and Highway Construction; required to work after hours, on weekends, and holidays during road and weather emergencies; use of two-way radio; ability to work closely with people; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and others; drivers license to travel to public meetings and project locations. Use of phone, calculator, reference sources, personal computer with word processing and technical software; physical mobility, agility, and mental alertness compatibly with an office, maintenance/shop, and construction project setting; work in all types of weather on a variety of uneven or slippery surfaces; ability to lift or carry several items with a total weight of 75 pounds; ability to stand for extended periods of time; requires flexibility in daily schedule; ability to work under stress; to remain calm and maintain focus under demanding and often conflicting work schedule with rapid shifts in priority; regular attendance is essential to efficiently process the volume of work in this position. Successful applicant must reside within a 15 mile radius of the Grand Forks Section Building within 90 days from the date of hire. Requires satisfactory completion of the interview process and a verifiable record of satisfactory performance in previous employment. Employment is contingent upon successful passing of the medical screening process.
