Prevents and controls the spread of sexually transmitted diseases
The Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) program prevents and controls infections with a primary focus on identification and treatment through screening and referral of exposed sex partners for evaluation and treatment. Primary prevention is emphasized through education and outreach. STD surveillance data is collected and evaluated to assure that resources are targeted effectively.

Disease Intervention Specialists
STD intervention, prevention and control is a cooperative effort that involves private physicians, other health care providers, local and state health department personnel, and members of the community at large. A key player in the public health STD field is the Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS).
