Arizona Department of Education
Special Projects & Constituent Services

Mission

To provide information about public education in Arizona and the initiatives of the Superintendent of Public Instruction to the media, public, government officials and educators.

Program Description

The Public Information Office and Constituent Services Office are responsible for generating and disseminating information to the general public, parents, the media, government, the private sector and the education community regarding the Arizona Department of Education, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Arizona's schools and education services.  The subprogram also functions as a channel of information to the Arizona Department of Education, providing the agency with insight into the education concerns of the statewide community.

The Constituent Services Office also coordinates programs and opportunities throughout the State of Arizona, such as:

  • Displaced Pupils Choice Grant - The Displaced Pupils Choice Grant Program awards grants to qualified students to be applied toward payment of tuition and fees for the educational and related services provided by a grant school.
  • Arizona Scholarship for Students with Disabilities - The Arizona Scholarships for Pupils with Disabilities Program was established to allow students with disabilities the option of attending any public school of the pupil's choice or receive a scholarship to any qualified private school of the pupil's choice.
  • Educator Talent Pool - A pool of educators consisting of a cadre of distinguished teachers and principals. These educators may be considered for membership on advisory boards and task forces, as well as candidates for recognition programs.
  • History Teacher of the Year - Sponsored by The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and Preserve America, this program honors outstanding teachers of American history across the country.
  • Academic Contests Funds - Funding available to help offset the cost of sending local academic teams to represent Arizona in national competitions.
  • Robert C. Byrd Scholarship - This is a federally funded program, which awards $1,500 per year for a maximum of four years to graduating HS seniors, for use toward program fees/tuition for undergraduate studies at any accredited college or university. School counselors and principals nominate applicants, and a panel of judges chooses the winners.
  • United States Senate Youth Program - Funded by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, this program awards two students from each state a $5,000 scholarship and an all expenses paid trip to visit our nation’s Capital.
