Supports for Adults

Comprehensive Supports in the Home

Overview

Supports in the home are available to help individuals to live as independently as possible on their own or in the family home or apartment. Individuals have the opportunity to enjoy freedom and choice over where, how, and with whom they live. All in home supports are developed based on the principles and values of Self Determination. The type, frequency, and duration of supports will depend upon the individual needs and environmental issues identified in the Individual Support Plan (ISP).

Comprehensive In Home Support Services

A comprehensive service providing adults the opportunity to design and manage the supports they need to live in their own home or their family home. Adults and their legal representatives receive assistance to identify needs, design formal and informal support strategies, gain access to a variety of resources, direct staff, fulfill employer responsibilities and monitor the quality of supports delivered.

Providers of comprehensive in-home supports require certification by the Department of Human Services, Seniors and Persons with Disabilities using approved state standards under the Comprehensive In Home Supports for Adults Rule Chapter 411-330. More information about the process and requirements for certification is available on the Licensing web page.

Access to in-home supports is through the Community Developmental Disabilities Program (CDDP). A Services Coordinator will work with the individual and family to develop a plan and identify the budget needed. Individuals or their spouses are not provided cash, but an individual can approve the use of their budget for certain types of comprehensive in-home supports. It is the responsibility of the services coordinator to help each customer identify and use the most cost effective provider of needed services. Services coordinators will also help individuals and families assume the role of employer and approver for service payments. To assist in these functions the State has identified usually and customary costs or rate ranges for each comprehensive in-home service can we add material to the rate setting page that is in allowable expenses file.
