Tribal Training

2008 Funding

With 2008 tribal training funding Fox Valley Technical College will deliver training and technical assistance to the 2008 Tribal Resources Grant Program (TRGP) awardees. Tasks include curricula development, on-site training and technical assistance in community policing and specialized topics, and a guidebook/toolkit based on the trainings. One particular specialized topic that will be offered will be training and technical assistance surrounding methamphetamines in tribal lands, with a focus on meth awareness and understanding as well as dealing with lab cleanup and removal. The on-site training and technical assistance visits will involve multiple types of stakeholders beyond tribal law enforcement to include tribal leaders, community leaders, and others. Visit http://www.fvtc.edu for more details.

2007 Funding

Under a 2007 COPS award, the Upper Midwest Community Policing Institute is developing a set of training curricula for Native American settings. The mission is to develop an innovative and culturally acceptable set of training, tools, and materials that will provide valuable community policing information to Native American law enforcement agencies and their community partners. Through consultation with experts the Institute will develop several modules of training for Native American audiences, pilot test the modules, and deliver approximately 24 trainings sessions to COPS 2007 Tribal Resources Grant Program (TRGP) recipients, and others as space allows. Training participants will also receive an Implementation Guidebook to assist them in implementing the knowledge and skills from the training in their department. Visit http://www.umcpi.org for more details.
