Gov. Lynch, Commissioner Burack Announce 108 Drinking Water, Wastewater Projects Approved for Stimulus Funding
State Will Issue $58 Million in Federal Stimulus Funds for Water System Upgrades Across New Hampshire

CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch and Environmental Services Commissioner Thomas Burack today announced that 108 drinking water and wastewater projects across New Hampshire have been approved for stimulus funding.

The state received $39 million for the Clean Water State Revolving Fund program for grants or loans for municipal wastewater system upgrades, and $19 million for the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund program for drinking water system upgrades. The funds will be matched with low-interest loans from the state’s existing revolving loan funds.

“These stimulus funds will have a positive impact by creating jobs and improving our state’s infrastructure and environment for the long term. Our Department of Environmental Services has worked closely with communities in identifying critical projects that fit the criteria of the federal stimulus law,” Gov. Lynch said. “This is another example of New Hampshire moving quickly to use stimulus funds and get our people back to work.”

“This stimulus funding will greatly help some of our cities and towns to upgrade aging drinking water, wastewater and storm water systems, as well as make many of these facilities more energy efficient,” noted DES Commissioner Tom Burack.

A complete list of the 108 approved projects can be found at http://des.nh.gov/recovery/water_funding.htm.

More information regarding the federal stimulus package can be found on the homepage Governor’s Office of Economic Stimulus at www.nh.gov/recovery.
