Governor announces vacancy for County Circuit Court judgeship

Judge Millikan announces retirement from Douglas County circuit bench

Salem, OR—Due to the retirement of Judge Robert C. Millikan, Governor Ted Kulongoski said today he is accepting applications for the fifth judicial position on the Douglas County Circuit Court.

The Governor thanked Judge Millikan for his years of service to Douglas County and to the people of Oregon, and said he will fill the position by appointment.  Millikan’s retirement takes effect on August 1.

Anyone interested in being considered for appointment to the position must submit an Interest Form for Judicial Appointments to the Governor’s office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 16.  Interested applicants should mail or deliver the forms to:  David Reese, General Counsel, Office of the Governor, 900 Court Street NE, Salem, OR 97301-4047.

In addition, the Governor may create a Screening Committee that includes members of the Governor’s staff and additional members of the public.  Finally, the Governor may personally interview one or more candidates.  In making his judicial appointments, the Governor ordinarily considers the interest forms and other materials submitted by the candidate, as well as other comments and information that may be submitted to the Governor’s office.  The Governor discourages candidates from generating mass mailings in support of candidates.

To receive answers to questions about the appointment process, or to request an interest form, contact Cassie Tarr (503.378.6246).  The Interest Form for Judicial Appointments is also available online at www.governor.oregon.gov.
