Get Involved with DAS-wide Committees!

The Department of Administrative Services extends an open invitation to its employees to participate in a variety of committees throughout the agency. This Web page describes each committee and provides links for more information. The committees give DAS employees opportunities to volunteer -- to serve on a team with other volunteers or provide coordination and leadership. Employees who want to get involved should seek their supervisor's approval first and then make contact with the specific committee's coordinator.

The department's charity activities provide abundant opportunities for DAS employees to volunteer. Annual opportunities include a food drive, toy drive, and the Charitable Fund Drive, in which employees can contribute to the charities of their choice across a variety of social concerns.

Diversity Council
Diversity Works logo DAS' Diversity Council promotes the value of mutual respect in the workplace and the rewards it brings for individuals and the organization alike. The council identifies needs and strategies for improvement, provides education and advocacy to and for DAS employees, and functions as an advisor to DAS leadership so that DAS becomes a more diverse organization and a model in state government.

The council is made up of DAS employees who represent a cross-section of the agency. Members' participation, enthusiasm and commitment are at the council's core.

Evacuation Coordinators
hard hatWhen an emergency occurs at work, employees must know and follow the proper procedures to safely evacuate the building. The DAS Evacuation Coordinators group provides awareness and training to all DAS employees and holds periodic drills. The coordinators oversee the evacuation process during drills or real events and meet together after each evacuation to review lessons learned and develop actions for continuous improvement. Every division of DAS needs several evacuation coordinators. If you want to serve in this important role, speak to your supervisor.
Green Teams

Green Teams consist of employees who volunteer to make their building more energy efficient, reduce the amount of trash produced, and generally create a "greener" place to work. Each DAS building may create a Green Team, which is open to all interested employees. Teams share with colleagues on lessening their environmental impact at work, and help shape policies and practices that increase efficiency and lower operating expenses in DAS buildings. If you want to get involved with an existing team or want to form a team in your building, contact Sustainability Coordinator Elin Shepard, (503) 373-7132.

Safety Committee
safety sign The DAS Safety Committee brings together representatives from various division-level and area safety committees to proactively address safety concerns in buildings occupied by DAS employees. Staff can volunteer for committees in their division or area, and those committees select representatives to attend central committee meetings. The committee works closely with the DAS Safety and Risk Manager, who permanently chairs the central committee. Members identify and correct safety issues, work within the agency to ensure new employees receive appropriate training on safety, promote awareness of safety concerns, and provide input on the department's safety program to executive leadership.
