Where EVERYDAY Is Veterans Day!
About Us
Serving Oregon's military veterans since 1945
Vision

The Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs (ODVA) continues to build better lives for military veterans, spouses, and their families living in Oregon. From helping veterans obtain earned medals and military awards to filing claims for education benefits, ODVA is here with you every step of the way. The wide array of programs and services are provided by a grateful nation and state.

Oregon Senate Concurrent Resolution Number 2, passed in 1943, said, in part, “. . . it would not be fitting that those who remained at home should by reason thereof gain economic advantage over our patriotic defenders.” The resolution continued, “Let it be in the declared policy of the State of Oregon to place our returning military and naval forces as nearly as possible on the same economic equality as those who remained at home.”

The Plymouth colony first cared for veterans beginning in 1636. Three hundred and seventy-three years later, the United States continues to provide the best possible care for our greatest assets. ODVA continues to be at the tip of the sword in response to Warrior Care. There is no greater calling than to care for those that ensured our freedom; Warrior Care is America's duty.

Annual Performance Measures

http://www.oregon.gov/ODVA/images/RotatingMilitaryPhotos/50.JPGThe Department has been serving Oregon's military veterans since 1945. The Oregon legislature created the Department in response to a citizen mandate to provide for Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen returning from duty in World War II. Since then, benefits managed by the Department have been extended to include veterans of later eras.

For more than 60 years, the Department has been providing quality service to veterans, their dependents and survivors. Our current goals are;
  1. Maintain the fiscal integrity of ODVA’s programs, services, and benefits
  2. Increase home ownership opportunities for Oregon’s veterans
  3. Provide excellent service to veterans, their families, and other department customers
  4. Enhance the financial stability of Oregon’s veterans and their families
  5. Maintain the affordability and highest quality of care for residents at the Oregon Veterans’ Home
  6. Increase awareness of all Department programs, services, and benefits through outreach and partnerships
  7. Maximize the use of technology to deliver services, programs, and benefits to Oregon’s veterans and their families
