Where do you work? On the Survey Vessel Moritz, which operates out of the Caven Point Marine Terminal in New Jersey, part of the New York District.
How long have you worked for the Corps? Fourteen years.
What is your job? What do you do? Hydrographic surveyor – protector of the taxpayer. By being diligent and making sure surveys of navigation channel depths are accurate, precise and consistent; we make sure that the dredging contractors do the job they are paid to do.
What do you love about your job? Being on a boat every day and the people I work with. Most people think I’m pretty lucky having an office on the water. Winter and summer, it’s good all year round.
Any special memories about your job you’d like to share? We’ve been involved in a lot of different rescues; from 9-11 to rescuing New Jersey state troopers that were in trouble. It’s always good to be helpful and I’ve got a lot of good memories.
