Policy on the Use of the CT.gov Name and Logo

Version 1.1
Last Revised: April 9, 2003

The CT.gov logo was created in 2002 to provide a unique and easily recognizable identity for the official web site of the State of Connecticut.  In particular, the CT.gov name and logo have been used to identify a single point of entry for public access to all of the official information, programs and services provided on the Internet by the three branches of Connecticut state government.

In order to provide some protection for that identity on the World Wide Web and the Internet, the CT.gov name and logo is officially registered and service marked with the Secretary of the State's Office in accordance with Chapter 621a of the Connecticut General Statutes.

Accordingly, the CT.gov name and logo shall be exclusively used to identify and promote the official web site of the State of Connecticut, and they shall be restricted in their use principally to the State's "home page" and its directly associated meta pages.

Individual agencies, organizations and offices, in the executive, judicial and legislative branches of Connecticut state government, as constituent parts of the State's official web site, share in the promotion and protection of the CT.gov name and logo. CMAC recommends the use of clearly qualifying or modifying language with any use of the CT.gov name or logo on an individual agency or organization web site. Any such use on the Internet, or on an Intranet or Extranet, by an individual agency or organization should be very carefully considered and clearly designed to avoid causing public confusion over the identity and location of the State's single "home page." Organizations are encouraged to use the CT.gov logo, as a modified graphic, as part of a return link to the State's home page. A specific graphic image, "Go to CT.gov," has been designed for this purpose and is available to Connecticut state government webmasters. Agencies, organizations and offices may otherwise freely use the CT.gov name and logo in print form as part of their efforts to promote recognition and public use of the CT.gov web site.
