Programs for Hosts The U.S. Department of State offers several programs through which hosts may request Fulbrighters for their campuses. Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA) The Fulbright FLTA program is a nine-month, non-degree program providing future teachers of English with the opportunity to refine their skills, increase their English language proficiency, and extend their knowledge of U.S. society and culture while strengthening foreign language instruction at U.S. colleges and universities, and some high schools. Website: http://flta.fulbrightonline.org/ Fulbright Visiting Specialists Program: Direct Access to the Muslim World The Fulbright Visiting Specialists Program: Direct Access to the Muslim World awards short-term grants for three-to-six weeks to scholars from the Middle East, South and Central Asia, and selected countries in East Asia, Africa, and Europe to help U.S. higher education institutions and communities enrich their understanding of Islamic civilization and culture and social, political, and economic developments in the Muslim world. Fulbright Visiting Specialists are matched with U.S. applicant institutions and lecture or teach short courses, assist with program and curriculum development, interact with students, and participate in public outreach programs with community groups, local schools, and civic organizations.
