Corps of Engineers park rangers
on the front line of invasive
mussel fight in California

ENGLEBRIGHT LAKE, Calif. (April 28, 2009) -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District Senior Ranger Skip Sivertsen inspects mussel detection stations April 23 at Englebright Lake, Calif. The detection stations, provided by the California Department of Fish and Game, are part of California’s program to prevent zebra and quagga mussel infestation. Invasive mussel populations have caused billions of dollars in damage to waterways in the eastern United States.

Corps and Levee District One meet with Rep. Wally Herger to discuss flood reduction efforts in Yuba City

YUBA CITY, Calif. (April 16, 2009) -- The Corps of Engineers recently secured about $129,000 to clean out and study the efficiency of relief wells near Yuba City to ensure that they are working properly. Jeffrey Twitchell, P.E. of Wood Rodgers, Inc. discusses the operation of the relief wells with Rep. Wally Herger, Levee District One Chairperson Francis Silva, the Corps' Deputy District Engineer for Programs and Project Management Dr. Christine Altendorf and the rest of the group during a site visit.

SPARKS, Nev. (April 14, 2009) -- Shig Fujitani, assistant chief of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District's engineering division, teaches attendees at the eighth annual Veterans and Small Business Training and Outreach Conference how to apply for contracts with the Corps of Engineers April 14, 2009 in Sparks, Nev. The conference, hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, South Pacific Division and the California Disabled Veterans Business Alliance, aims to familiarize veteran-owned companies and other small businesses with Corps of Engineers procurement practices.
