Keeping Current
Governor Kulongoski Signed Senate Bill 867
The bill was signed by Governor Kulongoski on June 24, 2009. All ACTIVE renewal forms for licenses that expire on June 30, 2009 that are postmarked June 25, 2009 or later will be required to include the additional $10 fee. The inactive renewal fee remains the same, $50.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO OREGON CPA PERMIT HOLDERS - May 29, 2009
THE 2009 SESSION OF THE OREGON LEGISLATURE HAS PASSED SENATE BILL 867. THE BILL WAS INTRODUCED AND WAS VIGOROUSLY ADVOCATED BY THE OREGON SOCIETY OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS (OSCPA). THE BOARD OF ACCOUNTANCY WAS UNANIMOUSLY OPPOSED TO THE BILL.

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE BILL WAS TO ENACT INTERSTATE "MOBILITY" FOR CPA'S LICENSED IN OTHER STATES. ONE RESULT OF THE LEGISLATION IS THE ELIMINATION OF THE CURRENT "SUBSTANTIAL EQUIVALENCY" PROCESS FOR OUT OF STATE LICENSEES. THE TERMINIATION OF SUBSTANTIAL EQUIVALENCY WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN THE LOSS OF APPROXIMATELY $135,000 IN REVENUE TO THE STATE EACH BIENNIUM. THE SOLUTION OF THE OSCPA TO REPLACE THE LOST REVENUE WAS TO INCREASE FEES CHARGED BY THE BOARD OF ACCOUNTANCY TO OREGON LICENSEES.

THE OSCPA'S PROPOSED FEE INCREASE TO OREGON LICENSEES WAS ADOPTED BY THE LEGISLATURE. ACCORDINGLY, INDIVIDUAL RENEWAL FEES WILL INCREASE FROM $150 TO $160. THE BILL HAS AN EMERGENCY CLAUSE AND WILL BECOME EFFECTIVE UPON BEING SIGNED BY THE GOVERNOR, WHICH WE ANTICIPATE WILL OCCUR IN APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK. PLEASE CHECK THE BOARD WEBSITE TO ASCERTAIN WHEN THE NEW FEE WILL BE IN EFFECT.

IF YOUR ACTIVE LICENSE EXPIRES 6/30/2009, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY THE ADDITIONAL $10 PERMIT FEE ONCE THIS BILL IS SIGNED BY THE GOVERNOR. THE ADDITIONAL $10 FEE WILL BE REQUIRED ON ALL ACTIVE RENEWALS POSTMARKED THE DAY AFTER THE BILL IS SIGNED. WE WILL POST ON THIS WEBSITE AND SEND AN EMAIL ONCE THIS DATE IS KNOWN.

Oregon Board of Accountancy
