Information for Current Grantees - Handbook

The Fulbright Foreign Fellows Handbook: Guide to Living and Studying in the United States is available both in hard copy from IIE and here as an Adobe Acrobat .pdf file. To open the file, you will need a recent version of the Adobe Reader software, which can be downloaded free of charge at www.adobe.com.

The Handbook has been especially prepared by IIE for Fulbright grantees. Updated yearly, it is an invaluable source of practical information that describes how to open a bank account, obtain a driver’s license, get a Social Security Number, and much more. It will repay you to read it carefully and keep it handy.

The Handbook also explains the general Fulbright regulations that govern the conduct of all Fulbright Foreign Student Program grantees in the United States. Although these regulations are also noted throughout this Web site, the Handbook’s explanations of the regulations are sometimes more comprehensive and systematic than those given here. IIE therefore suggests that you consult the Handbook, as well as this Web site, for discussion of such technical issues as income taxes, visa regulations, and travel outside the United States.
