Recent Changes to Employment Law

The Technical Assistance for Employers Program helps employers comply with the labor and employment laws enforced by BOLI. Technical Assistance offers telephone and web-based information, pamphlets, fact sheets, handbooks, posters, and general and customized seminars and workshops.

The 2009 Legislative Session brought a number of changes to labor and employment law. It also provided additional resources for the Technical Assistance to Employers Program, which did not previously receive any state support for its services. BOLI is excited to be able to continue providing this valuable resource for Oregon employers.

The Technical Assistance for Employers program offers a variety of training seminars for Oregon employers, supervisors, managers, and human resource professionals. Technical Assistance trainers work closely with bureau enforcement divisions to provide you with educational seminars that cover the latest developments in employment law. BOLI seminars are acclaimed as an effective and proactive way to help keep your organization in compliance with labor laws -- and out of court.

Updated Wage & Hour Handbook Now Available

The long-awaited 2009 Wage and Hour Handbook is now available! The newly revised and updated handbook provides a comprehensive guide to Oregon wage and hour laws for employers. This is an excellent employment law resource produced by the agency responsible for the enforcement of these laws.

The handbook, available for $40 plus shipping, gives employers comprehensive information on wage and hour laws, including minimum wage, overtime, deductions, rest and meal periods, and child labor. Moreover, since employment laws change frequently, this handbook is an excellent guide on new laws passed by the Oregon legislature.

In addition to the new Wage & Hour Handbook, BOLI's Technical Assistance Program offers a variety of handbooks on employment law topics, including civil rights law, family leave law and policy writing guidelines. Workplace posters can also be purchased from Technical Assistance.
