With USAID support, the American Bar Association’s Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative (ABA CEELI) celebrated its fifth anniversary with a graduation ceremony for student Street Law Program trainers on May 23, 2009. USAID Country Coordinator Scott Taylor gave opening remarks at the event.
The Street Law Program in Azerbaijan improves law students’ knowledge of the law; challenges law students to distill legal concepts and explain them to schoolchildren; and trains up-and-coming legal professionals on how to use interactive teaching methods.
Simultaneously, the program provides schoolchildren with tools to identify and discuss legal rules, as well as understand how they apply in their daily lives. Teachers, parents, classroom coordinators, school directors, and the community-at-large are engaged in discussions inside and outside the classroom concerning the legal issues presented in the Street Law classes.
