Addressing Past Problems at Interior Will Help Ensure Successful Recovery Efforts

To ensure effective use of the Department of the Interior's approximately $3 billion in Recovery Act funding, Interior's Inspector General advised the Department and its bureaus to focus on four areas: (1) setting an appropriate ethical tone from the top, (2) awarding contracts and financial assistance for goods and services, (3) overseeing approximately $500 million in Indian Country funding, and (4) ensuring the health and safety of Department employees and visitors.

Secretary Salazar Announces $15 Million Investment in Hazardous Fuel Reduction Projects, Biomass Production on Public Lands

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced today that the Department would invest $15 million under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to fund 55 projects that will reduce hazardous fuels on thousands of acres of federal land to protect communities at risk from wildland fires, support local economies and rehabilitate ecosystems damaged by wildfire. The funding is part of $3 billion Interior is investing in the nation's economy under President Obama's recovery plan.

Secretary Salazar Announces Department of the Interior Recovery Investments in all 50 States

Secretary Salazar announced the Department of the Interior's projects under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for all 50 states. Overall, the Department of the Interior will manage $3 billion in investments as part of the recovery plan signed by the President to jumpstart our economy, create or save jobs, and put a down payment on addressing long-neglected challenges so our country can thrive in the 21st century.

Salazar Announces $305 Million Economic Stimulus Investment through the Bureau of Land Management to Restore Landscapes, Develop Renewable Energy, and Create Jobs

Red Rock National Conservation Area, NV - Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today announced $305 million will fund more than 650 Bureau of Land Management projects across the country under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The investments will restore landscapes and habitat, spur renewable energy development on public lands, and create jobs.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to Undertake More than 770 Projects Under President's Economic Recovery Plan
HELENA, MT -- In an announcement that will both create jobs and promote the conservation of our nation's fish and wildlife, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today said the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will invest $280 million in more than 770 projects through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to build visitors centers, improve infrastructure, and bolster conservation at national wildlife refuges and hatcheries across the country.
