Community Development Block Grant Recovery (CDBG-R) funds

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Stimulus Act) appropriated Community Development Block Grant Recovery (CDBG-R) funds to states to carry out CDBG eligible projects that are ready and will assist in economic recovery. CDBG-R funds must be used in a manner that maximizes job creation and economic development benefit. The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) will receive $5.2 million in CDBG-R funds to serve the non-entitlement to the Commonwealth.

Next steps for Virginia under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

Between the launch of Stimulus.virginia.gov on February 10 and the deadline for submissions on March 6, more than 9,000 project proposals were put forward by citizens, localities, and other groups.

Now that the project solicitation phase of Virginia’s program to implement the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has concluded, the Governor’s Stimulus Working Group has sent these project proposals to the Cabinet Secretaries who lead Virginia’s major executive agencies for review and evaluation.

$806 Million in Recovery Funds Now Available for Virginia to Save Teaching Jobs and Drive Education Reform

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced that $806 million is now available for Virginia under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. This funding will lay the foundation for a generation of education reform and help save hundreds of thousands of teaching jobs at risk of state and local budget cuts.
