Administered by the National Academies, the program supports university faculty on one-year assignments at the U.S. Department of State or USAID, where they serve as science and technology advisers on foreign policy issues, often traveling to U.S. embassies and missions overseas. | | | | Blog Post Highlights PGA’s Work on Sustainability Neil Hawkins, a member of PGA’s Roundtable on Science and Technology for Sustainability, wrote a post for the Mitchell Foundation’s website highlighting the National Research Council’s work around sustainability. Hawkins explains the Roundtable’s efforts to draw attention to the food-water-energy nexus -- which has been called the “stress nexus” of sustainable development – and discusses two reports that “promise to have dramatic impact on the United States contributions to global sustainable development”: Sustainability and the U.S. EPA and Sustainability for the Nation: Resource Connections and Governance Linkages. Workshop: Measures of Community Resilience: From Lessons Learned to Lessons Applied Friday, September 5, 2014 9am-12pm EST
The Resilient America Roundtable will host a workshop that focuses on the kinds of indicators that exist for measuring resilience, and which indicators communities might use and why. The workshop will emphasize ways to transfer the concepts of resilience measures as presented in the 2012 NRC report “Disaster Resilience: A National Imperative” into practical actions that communities can implement at the local level.
