Second Meeting of the AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition
The AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition will hold its second meeting on 23 to 24 July at AAAS Headquarters, 12th and H St., NW, Washington, D.C, bringing together members and representatives of scientific associations, professional societies, and science academies.
The meeting, geared towards scientists, engineers, and health professionals, will begin 5:30 p.m. on 23 July with a special event to honor Dr. Richard Claude, a science and human rights pioneer who through his career, mentoring, and scholarship has inspired and enabled several generations of scientists to take up the important work of human rights.
Over the course of the meeting, participants will explore the varied contributions that science and scientists can make to human rights, and have the opportunity to equip their scientific association with information and tools needed for robust engagement in human rights. Session titles include "Ethical Dilemmas in Science Practice," "Getting Your Association Involved," "Human Rights and the Mobility of Scientists," and "Human Rights 101 for Scientists."
The Coalition is a formal network that will explore how scientists can use their expertise to advance human rights in the U.S. and abroad. The Coalition also will address the human rights of scientists under threat, the ethical underpinnings of scientific research, and the human right to the benefits of scientific progress.

90th Annual Meeting of the Pacific Division: "Sustainability in an Evolving World"
The Pacific regional division of AAAS will hold its 90th Annual Meeting, themed "Sustainability in an Evolving World," in San Francisco. It will be held at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park and on the campus of San Francisco State University.
The program will include special events on sustainability, evolution, and Charles Darwin in this year of the 150th anniversary of his publication of On the Origin of Species and also the 200th anniversary of his birth.
The four-day meeting will also feature symposia on amphibian declines, "weird life," "green" technology, science communnication, and nanotechnology; an address by AAAS Education and Human Resources Director Shirley Malcom; field trips; and workshops.

2010 AAAS Annual Meeting: "Bridging Science and Society"
The 2010 AAAS Annual Meeting will be held in San Diego, California, bringing together an exceptional array of speakers addressing some of the most crucial and timely areas of science, technology, engineering, education, and policy-making.
