Thousands of public housing units for lower-income residents, including the elderly and disabled, will be developed and modernized as a result of approximately $1 billion in grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Most of the grant money will be devoted to making the units more energy efficient, thus decreasing utility costs to the residents.
In Fiscal Year 2009, almost two-thirds of Recovery Act funding to states and localities will be in the health field; by FY 2012, the major portion of funding will shift to long-term economic growth opportunities in transportation, energy, and community development.
American Indians and Alaska Natives will soon benefit from $227 million the Department of Health and Human Service’s Indian Health Service plans to award for two state-of-the-art health-care facilities. An additional $273 million will fund other projects across 24 states that will improve the quality of life for American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
The General Services Administration will spend $5.55 Billion on over 250 construction projects in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and two U.S. territories. The projects will support the President's vision for a clean energy future, create jobs, and reinvest in our public buildings.
To help middle-class families get back on their feet and restore some fairness to the tax code, President Obama in February signed one of his signature issues into law – the Making Work Pay tax credit. As a result, families across the country are seeing more money in their paychecks.
