21. What if I need more time?

We need to receive your completed census form by February 12, 2003. If you cannot return your completed form by February 12, please visit our Online Requests to request an extension, or contact us, and we will try to accommodate your request. We need your census answer in order to meet the growing demand for census statistics. To ease your response, we will accept your best estimates for any information that is not readily available.

  • February deadline. Responses by February 12 help businesses meet their census obligation before other tax and fiscal-year reporting deadlines arrive, and permit the Census Bureau to prepare and publish timely census results.

  • Extension considerations. In responding to requests for extension of the census due date, we will consider all applicable individual business circumstances, as well as our need to produce complete and timely Economic Census statistics.

  • Preventive action. Businesses, especially large or complex businesses, that anticipate difficulty in meeting the census due date are encouraged to contact us as early as possible to discuss assistance options and avoid unnecessary census costs.
