Establishments Covered
Arts, entertainment and recreation establishments operate facilities or provide services that meet the cultural, entertainment, and recreational interests of their patrons. NAICS classifies establishments in the Arts, Entertainment and Recreation sector using numbers that start with 71.
The Economic Census covers all arts, entertainment and recreation establishments that operated during all or part of calendar year 2002. Coverage includes a variety of facilities and services, including theater and performing arts companies; spectator sports organizations and facilities; arts and sports promotion services; agents for entertainers and athletes; museums, zoos, and gardens; amusement parks and casinos; and marinas, ski centers, golf courses and fitness facilities.
Census Mail Package
Arts, entertainment and recreation establishments with paid employees will receive a mail package with several types of materials. The materials are similar in content but customized to make reporting easier for different groups of covered establishments. Each establishment will receive either an Information Sheet and census form, or a classification form.
Information Sheets provide general information about the census and instructions for reporting selected items on the census form. Information sheets for arts, entertainment and recreation services establishments are numbered SV-xx(x).
Census Forms describe each arts, entertainment and recreation services establishment data item, and provide instructions and formats for reporting them. Census forms for sector establishments are numbered AE-71xxx.
