NWS Memphis Product Guide -- Routine Products

Your National Weather Service in Memphis issues a number of products every day.  These include forecasts, climate information, and daily and hourly observations.  The pages below offer a brief explanation of each product, and links to a current example of each product.
� Zone Forecast (ZFP)   Latest Zone Forecast
A zone is an area where essentially the same weather is expected, so that a single forecast can serve as the local forecast for all communities within the area.  Zone forecasts cover a seven-day period, and have enough detail to give customers a clear statement of expected weather.  Significant weather events, such as warnings, watches, and advisories are headlined in each zone forecast.  The zone forecast is issued around 4am/pm local time, and updated as needed.
� Area and Point Forecast Matrices Latest AFM             Latest PFM
The "Area and Point Forecast Matrices" is a new product issued by the National Weather Service.  It shows the forecast in a detailed tabular format, rather than the narrative format of the ZFP.  These products will replace the Revised Digital Forecast(RDF) and  is issued around 4am/pm local time, and updated as needed.
� Tabular State Forecast Latest SFT             
The "Tabular State Forecast" is a new product issued by the National Weather Service.  It shows the forecast in a tabular format, rather than the narrative format of the ZFP for the entire Mid South.  This product  is issued around 4am/pm local time, and updated as needed.
� Short Term Forecast (NOW)  Latest Short Term Forecast
The "Short Term Forecast" is intended to be the primary way of communicating plain language forecasts of short term weather and appropriate hydrological conditions; for example,  thunderstorm movement and intensity, or forecast rainfall and snowfall amounts.  The forecast is usually issued every hour, but can be valid for up to six hours.  
The Short Term Forecast is usually issued whenever significant weather (normally precipitation) is expected.  No forecast is issued during fair weather.
� Area Weather Synopsis (AWS) Latest Area Weather Synopsis
The "Area Weather Synopsis and Outlook" provides an overall narrative of the weather factors which are expected to influence our region for the next few days. The product is issued around 10am/pm and 4am/pm.  
� Climate Report (CLI) Latest Climate Report for MEM, MKL, JBR, or TUP
The "Climate Report" presents climatological data in tabular form for Memphis, Jackson, Dyersburg, Jonesboro, and Tupelo.  The report is issued three times daily -- around 12:30am CST and 6:20am/pm CST. 
� State Weather Roundup (SWR) Latest State Weather Roundup
The "Tennessee Hourly State Weather Roundup" provides routine, standardized hourly reports of weather observed in Tennessee.  It is automatically composed and transmitted from the Memphis office.  The data are received from specially coded observations.  If the data are not in the observation then a N/A is used.  In the "REMARKS" section, wind chill is coded WCI, heat index is coded HX, and visibility (in statute miles) is coded as VSB.   "FOG" may also be seen in the remarks section.  This product is issued at :00, :05, and :15 after each hour.  Each state has its own State Weather Roundup.  Links to other states:

� State Temp / Precip Table (STP) Latest State Temp / Precip Table
The "Tennessee Temperature and Precipitation Table" summarizes high and low temperatures and 24 hour precipitation at selected locations across Tennessee, and is issued twice a day at 6:15am/pm CST.  Each state has its own State Temperature and Precipitation Table.  Links to other states:

� Regional Temp / Precip Table (RTP) Latest Regional Temp / Precip Table
The "Regional Temperature and Precipitation Table" summarizes high and low temperatures and 12 and 24 hour precipitation at all reporting locations in the NWS Memphis service area, and is issued twice a day at 6:15am/pm CST. 
� Daily Precipitation and Temp (OSO) Latest Daily Precipitation and Temp
The "Daily Precipitation and Temperatures" product is used at NWS Memphis for two different purposes.  First, a collection of temperature and precipitation observations from our cooperative observers across the Mid-South is composed and transmitted, between 9am and 10am.  Then in the evening, observers from the West Tennessee Weather Net provide their observations around 8:30pm.  
� Daily Agriculture Observations (AGO) Latest Daily Agriculture Observations
The "Daily Agriculture Observations" product includes specialized weather observations from several agricultural observing sites across the Mid-South.  Air and soil temperatures, evaporation,  precipitation, and wind speed are included. This product is issued at around 10am daily.
� Monthly Climate Summary (CLM) Latest Monthly Climate Summary
The "Monthly Climate Summary" is used to report climatological data at the end of each month.  It contains tabular information about monthly data for Memphis, Jackson, and Tupelo.   This product is issued around 8am on the first day of every month.
� Forestry Fire Weather Forecast(FWF) Latest Forestry Fire Weather Forecast
The "Mid-South Forestry Fire Weather Forecast" is a forecast of several parameters considered helpful or crucial to fire weather operations.  These include several indices, as well as temperature, humidity, and precipitation.  The forecast is issued twice daily -- by 6am, and again around 4 pm.
� Terminal Aerodrome Forecast(TAF)
The "Terminal Aerodrome Forecast" is a forecast of several parameters considered helpful or crucial to aviation weather operations.  These include cloud amount and height, wind direction and speed, visibility and precipitation.  The forecast is issued 4 times daily -- by 7 am, 1 pm, 7pm, and 1am during daylight savings time. During standard time, the product is issued by 6am, 12 pm, 6pm, and 12 am local time.
� Hazardous  Weather Outlook (HWO)   Latest Hazardous Weather Outlook
The "Hazardous Weather Outlook" is a forecast of the hazardous weather potential during a 7 day period in the Mid-South.  The primary purpose of this outlook is to assist emergency managers, the media, volunteer radio operators, public safety groups, and the general public as they plan daily activities.
The Hazardous Weather Outlook is normally issued during the early morning hours, and updated as additional information dictates.
