U.S. Department of Energy - Berkeley Site Office
The Department of Energy Berkeley Site Office is located at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California. The mission of the Berkeley Site Office is to manage the Department of Energy's performance-based management and operating contract for the safe, secure, effective, and efficient operation of the Laboratory in support of the missions of the Department of Energy and the Office of Science.
The mission of the Office of Science is to foster, formulate and support forefront basic and applied research programs which advance the science and technology foundations necessary to accomplish Department of Energy missions. The Office of Science is the single largest supporter of physical science basic research in the United States.
The overarching mission of the Department of Energy is to advance the national, economic, and energy security of the United States; to promote scientific and technological innovation in support of that mission; and to ensure the environmental cleanup of the national nuclear weapons complex. The Department has four strategic goals toward achieving the mission: defense, energy, science, and environment.
