Title | Family Assistance Workshop - Meeting the Challenges in a New Era of Disaster Response |
Description |
The Aviation Disaster Family Assistance Act of 1996 tasked the NTSB with coordinating assistance to families of victims involved in major aviation accidents. In the ten years since, a new era of family assistance in disaster response has evolved, encompassing applications in other transportation accidents, criminal events, and natural disasters. In consideration of the lessons learned in family assistance programs over the last ten years, this workshop will explore current issues in family assistance; the evolution of service delivery to those affected by large-scale disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina and 9/11; and will focus on ideas and strategies on how to most effectively meet emerging challenges. Feedback from this workshop will be used in the development of a new course to be delivered in summer 2007: Crisis Leadership in Transportation Disaster Response (TDA405). |
