NTSB LAUNCHES GO-TEAM TO MARINE ACCIDENT IN FLORIDA; 3 PM MEDIA BRIEFING TO BE HELD


The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a go-team to yesterday’s marine accident in Ponte Vedra, Florida. 

At approximately 6:30 pm (EDT), a 22-foot pleasure craft struck a moored workboat at mile marker 195 of the intercoastal waterway.  Multiple fatalities and injuries have been reported.

Senior Marine Investigator Tom Roth-Roffy is the Investigator-in-Charge and will lead the team of three investigators.  NTSB Board Member Deborah A.P. Hersman is accompanying the team and will serve as the on-scene spokesman.  A representative from the NTSB’s Office of Transportation Disaster Assistance is accompanying the team and Peter Knudson will be the on-scene Press Officer.  He can be reached on his cell phone at (202) 557-1350.

The NTSB is cooperating with Florida State Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission law enforcement investigators.

The Safety Board will hold a media briefing today at 3:00 pm (EDT) at the Jacksonville Aviation Authority Administration Building, 14201 Pecan Park Road, 2nd Floor Training room. Member Hersman will provide remarks.
