James V. Hansen Wildlife Education Center

The James V. Hansen Wildlife Education Center offers interactive exhibits, a wetland diorama and other displays featuring information on birds and wetlands of the Great Salt Lake ecosystem.  A ½-mile accessible walking trail meanders through the wetland habitat just outside the center.  

The center is located on Forest Street one block west of Interstate 15 (Exit #363).  The center hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm weekdays; 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturdays; and it is closed on Federal holidays.

Wall Mural

This large wall mural welcomes you into the exhibit hall.

Wetlands exhibit

A large section of the exhibit hall educates visitors about the uniqueness and benefits of wetlands.

Bird Exhibits

Displays in the upper part of the exhibit hall educate visitors about birds. Trestlewood, resurrected from the bottom of the Great Salt Lake, was used for flooring in the hall.

Wetland Diorama

This large wetland diorama features a variety of species - found both above and below the water.

Interactive exhibits

Visitors hear wetland birds singing as they make their way through the colorful, interactive exhibits - providing learning experiences for all ages.

Goals
  • Provide opportunities for the public to learn about  wildlife and plant species of the Bear River Refuge and  the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem.
  • Serve as a resource for environmental education with school districts, youth organizations, universities, conservation organizations, and other groups interested in the importance of wetlands to people.
