In the recently passed budget, Speaker Pelosi laid the groundwork for national energy tax known as “cap and tax.”  This proposal would cost the average American family $3,100 per year, raising an estimated $629 billion to fund new government programs.  Proponents believe this is necessary to control carbon emissions they believe are leading to global warming.  Opponents believe the proposal would kill jobs (studies have shown it could kill between 1.8 to 7 million jobs) and increase government interference in our lives.
