Fort
Union Trading Post NHS has several collections of archaeological
and research materials. Research materials consist of a park
library, original documents, research files, and microfilm. Fort
Union's library is one of the most extensive libraries on fur
trade history and Northern Plains tribal cultures. Fort Union's
archaeological collection is also one of the largest archaeological
collections in the National Park System. A series of archaeological
digs took place at Fort Union Trading Post NHS between 1966 and
1988, with the most extensive work being done in the mid- to
late-1980s.
Fort Union's collections
are available for on-site research (books and items may not
be removed from Park grounds). Requests for more information
